Syracuse Native Plays Music Hits Made by Post Malone in ‘Tiny Desk Concert’

Post Malone is an amazing performer, and he proved it with a beautiful acoustic set on NPR’s recent “Tiny Desk Concert.”

The Grammy-nominated rapper and singer opened the four-song performance with a smooth, Americana-style take on his biggest hit, “Sunflower.” Posti played an acoustic guitar with an orchestra that included piano, strings and backup singers, earning a long standing ovation from the small crowd in NPR’s office.

“My name is Austin Richard Post,” he said humbly later, introducing himself by the name his parents gave him when he was born in Syracuse in 1995. “Thank you guys for coming out today and listening to the music. And thanks for having me on NPR.

He blamed it on his long tour in support of his new album, “Austin,” and joked about being nervous. But Malone managed to sound even better on renditions of “I Fall Apart” and “Circles,” though he said he messed up the latter because he played “a Van Halen solo in my head.”

Malone closed the set with a clap-along version of “Enough Is Enough,” featured on the latest edition of the Syracuse Playlist, which highlights new music from artists with local ties. Malone lived in the Central New York area until he was 10, when his family moved to Texas, where his family still owns a home in Baldwinsville.
