Hollywood may have lost a TV legend in Norman Lear, who died on Tuesday at the age of 101, but fans will be able to spend a little more time with him as he makes a special appearance in an upcoming animated series. Perfect momentTimeline learned exclusively.
The Netflix and Sony Pictures television comedy, which follows a new generation of the Evans family living in one of the last remaining housing projects in Chicago, has yet to announce a release date, but sources say they are aiming for a summer 2024 premiere. Netflix and SPT declined to comment.
Perfect moment At the age of 101, it was one of several projects that Lear left behind as he was busy developing and producing new series through his production deal with Sony TV. In May, Netflix greenlit Lear EB-ed drama series Corps, starring Vera Farmiga, Miles Heiser and Liam Oh, is about a gay high school student who joins his straight best friend in the Marine Corps. Project based on Greg Cobb White’s memoir Pink MarineHe was close to Lear’s heart as a soldier who fought bravely during World War II.

A remake of another Lear TV classic, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, and is produced by Lear Exec. Originally set for 2021 on TBS, the show returned following changes to the Turner cable network. In April, Deadline spoke with Lear’s producing partner, Brent Miller Sheets Creek Star Emily Hampshire—attached to the title role—about the project.
“It’s shopping,” Miller shared during the interview.
Hampshire added, “If anyone is shopping, Mary is shopping. The highlight of the show is the pitch that explores what the original series would look like in today’s world. The great thing is that it is becoming more and more relevant now. Mary’s obsession with the screen foreshadowed us on our screens, but now instead of Mary watching the ads, we are the ads.
