2 dead, 14 injured in shooting at Juneteenth celebration in Texas

Two people have been killed and at least 14 injured in a shooting at a Juneteenth celebration in a Texas park, officials said.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, about 19 miles north of Austin.

Round Rock Police Chief Alan Banks said the shooting occurred after an altercation between two groups during a concert at the event. The shooting took place from the stage near the vendor area.

He added that the two men, who were pronounced dead at the scene, were not involved in the altercation. Round Rock police confirmed late Sunday that 14 victims with gunshot wounds were taken to local hospitals after the shooting.

Police said they are looking for a suspect in connection with the shooting. He is described as approximately 5ft 7in tall and with thin dreadlocks.

Police officers and firefighters on the scene immediately began providing emergency medical aid to several injured people, who were then transported to local hospitals, Allen said.

Six people — four adults and two children — were taken to local trauma facilities, all with serious injuries, according to a post from Austin-Travis County EMS earlier Sunday in the X.

“It breaks your heart for a family that came out to enjoy their evening and now their life is forever changed as a result of someone who could care less about someone else’s life,” Allen said.
