A shooting suspect at a New Hampshire state hospital is suspected, police said

A man shot in the lobby of a New Hampshire psychiatric hospital on Friday has died, authorities said.

According to New Hampshire State Police, the suspect in the incident was shot and killed by state police troopers assigned to the facility. State Police Director Col. Mark Hall said all patients at the hospital are safe.

After the shooting, officers investigated a suspicious vehicle in the hospital parking lot. Law enforcement officers used a tactical robot to search U-Haul, videos from CNN affiliates show.

Footage shows a robot positioned next to the U-Haul’s driver’s door and the vehicle’s tailgate partially open. A law enforcement officer in protective gear inspects the cargo area of ​​a vehicle.

Officials say they are working to identify the suspect.

Hall did not provide any additional information Friday afternoon, but said updates would be provided “soon.”

The hospital, in the central city of Concord, is a psychiatric facility that serves to treat those suffering from “severe mental illness.” Its website.

The head of New Hampshire’s Department of Health and Human Services said Friday evening that he was “shocked and saddened” by the shooting.

“Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and our colleagues who were affected,” Commissioner Lori Weaver said at a news conference.

The hospital will be temporarily closed to visitors, but patients and staff will be supported “as we work through this tragedy together,” Weaver said.

“This is a difficult and unimaginable day for our employees and our community,” the commissioner added.

Officers were sweeping the hospital, another law enforcement official told CNN.
