Ford’s back-scaling EV production could affect Kentucky

Lexington, Ky. (Fox 56) – Ford Motor Company has announced major changes to its strategy regarding electric vehicles.

The company said it will overhaul its lineup of fully electric SUVs and replace them with hybrids. This comes as hybrids are gaining popularity across the country. In general, they offer a shorter battery range, but a longer overall range when combined with a gas engine.

“The plan includes adjusting the company’s North American vehicle roadmap to offer a range of electrification options designed to accelerate customer adoption — including lower prices and longer ranges,” one says. Ford press release.

Ford said the move could cost up to $1.5 billion.
