The Rangers lead the Astros 2-0, and the Phillies face the Diamondbacks

What a start for the Texas Rangers.

A day after Jordan Montgomery shut down the Astros in Game 1 of the ALCS, the Rangers cruised to a 5-4 victory in a Game 2 thriller on Monday. The Rangers jumped out to a 4-0 start in the first inning and got six innings of three-run ball from Nathan Ewaldi, who got out of a fifth-inning, bases-loaded, no-out jam without allowing a run.

Yordon Alvarez’s home run cut the Astros’ deficit to 5-4 in the eighth, his second of the day, but did not tie or take the lead. The series shifts to Arlington on Wednesday. The Rangers, who are now 7-0 in the postseason, have three games at home when they need two wins to close out the streak.

In the nightcap, the Philadelphia Phillies kicked off the NLCS against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Philadelphia is looking to make two straight trips to the World Series, while Arizona hasn’t found itself in this position since 2007, when the D-Backs were swept by the Colorado Rockies in the NLCS. It’s a battle of the jacks, as Arizona’s Zach Galen takes on Philadelphia’s Zach Wheeler.

All four remaining postseason teams are in action on Monday as Yahoo Sports provides the latest news, scores, updates and highlights.
