ST-DENIS, France – The gold medal in the women’s 4×100 relay is coming back to the United States.

The star-studded U.S. women’s relay team of Gabby Thomas and Shakari Richardson and Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry took first in the event with a season-best 41.78.

Great Britain finished second with a time of 41.85 and Germany third in 41.97.

Thomas ran a good third leg, but he was in third place when he handed the baton to Richardson. Richardson ran an excellent anchor leg and brought home the victory for the USA in rainy conditions.

“Obviously getting the baton for Sha’Kari is really special. She’s very fast and when she gets her hands on the baton you know we’re in good hands,” Thomas said. “I felt very proud, I was grateful to compete with these girls and we got the gold.”

The U.S. women finished second behind a star-studded Jamaica team at the Tokyo Olympics, but Jamaica was without its stars Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce, Sherika Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Hera due to various injuries.

The U.S. women were by far the best team on the track as they won all of their relays en route to an Olympic gold medal.

It was Thomas’ second gold of the Olympics. On Tuesday she won the 200, Richardson’s first Olympic gold. Last Saturday he finished second in the 100th.
